I would like to show you how to re imagine Yin energy in your life. I'd like to show you how to organise and activate your body so that you can manifest a Yin body state and access your internal somatic intuition in any asana or vinyasa.
Join a men's Circleworkshop session and tap into body feelings and sensations by training interoception and proprioception, learn resilience and how to develop a Yin body state on demand.
My yoga practice is inspired by Subtle Yoga and The Movement Template. In my yoga practice, I include using neutral points as reference points for moving, this an integral concept of a martial art called Zhong Xin Dao I Liq Chuan.
Being neutral and balanced, or centered, is a good default place to be, both physically and mentally. The Window of Tolerance model illustrates the benefits of training to automatically default to parasympathetic homeostasis. We want our practice to anchor our whole selves to a sattvic state as a general rule so we can take the benefits off the mat into our daily lives. In this context, sattvic and neutral are interchangeable.
Cost. The event fees are by dana. Dana is often taken to simply mean donation or gift. Each participant arrives at the amount of dana voluntarily. We will be training outside.
This introductory workshop is aimed at demonstrating that you can maintain your center and be fully engaged without using excessive Yang type energy.
We will cover:
Why neutral? How does the ability to recognize neutral help us to better understand Yin energy. There are reasons why we train to Absorb on the point of contact, Absorb is a Yin energy.
How to recognize and balance yin/ yang energies in the form of absorb/project and condense/expand, solo and partner.
This practice involves reflecting on the questions; How are you feeling? How are you connected? Learn how to improve the quality of your connection, with yourself and with others. Your practice will feel more stable, stronger and have better movement control at the end of range.
Access more power by learning how to let your muscles relax while activating your fascial system.
Yin embodiment can be expressed in any asana or vinyasa. It is a body state characterized by a calm and resilient mind and body. With training, you can manifest that state in any asana and vinyasa as well as in your personal life off the mat. It's an approach to practice that will give you more peace, ease and calm.
This training will take place in a safe supporting environment. The practice will involve yoga vinyasa as well as partner training. We will practice drills that encourage the ability to absorb at the point of change or contact so that awareness can be brought to the process of change.
If you are in a neutral state, and you need to change, energetically are you going to stay neutral (i.e. change with the change) or absorb (i.e. go yin) or project (i.e. go yang)?
In general men tend to project energy, not all men, but in general that is the stereotype and sometimes cultural expectation. Men can tap into and recognize how we are connected and how we are feeling and use that as a reference point for either projecting or absorbing energy.
And, in general, sometimes men aren't aware of the extent to which they are projecting energy or how reactive they may be. Being in a Yin body state will improve your ability to connect in the present.
The theme of this workshop is recognizing balance and practicing finding neutral, building resilience and cultivating interoception in asana and vinyasa. This class is specifically focused on males and male energetics, you are welcome to come, new friends and training partners are welcome. The approach is slow, soft and accessible.
It really doesn't matter if it's too much yang or too much yin, these basic drills will help restore balance and nervous system homeostasis and help cultivate a yin body state at will.
We will investigate the intersection between slow mindful yoga and tai chi qi gong type movement. We will cultivate our proprioception and interoception skills and train the nervous system to default to a calm homeostatic condition, ideal for maintaining good health.
Underneath the choreography of tai chi qi gong movement are a set of internal feelings, these feelings can be accessed in yoga vinyasa. There are pairs of energies; absorb and project and condense and expand. Being physically and mentally neutral in the context of these energies balances and rejuvenates the body and the mind creating a feeling of vitality and integrity.
We will exercise feeling the yang and yin in our vinyasa practice. You can use this understanding to form the basis for recognizing neutral during initiation and stopping movement as you transition from stillness to movement to stillness. For example, lateral transitions in W2 left to W2 right.
Recognizing these energies and learning how to balance them are integral to practicing internal martial arts based on movement. This approach to 'innercise' is ideal for building nervous system resilience. It's also ideal for incorporating into vinyasa and incorporates some fundamental concepts around safe injury proof training!
